“The Biggest Little City in the World” will host the POMS 2012 conference, but you
might have a hard time staying inside in this dynamic, exciting destination. We
will be at the Peppermill Reno Hotel Spa Casino. Those who feel a winning streak
coming on can try their luck at one (or more!) of Reno’s well‐known casinos. Nature
lovers can enjoy hiking, rock climbing and skiing in the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains,
going for a walk or bike ride along the Truckee River, or driving the gorgeous route
along Lake Tahoe—spring is the perfect time to see the sights! Or you can catch
up with friends and colleagues over a game of golf: more than twenty courses await
you less than an hour’s drive from downtown. And with fun attractions like the National
Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) and Wild Island Family Adventure Park,
there’s plenty to do in Reno for the whole family.

POMS will head to beautiful Cancun, Mexico for its 2013 meeting. Famous for its
spectacular white‐sand beaches, this city offers amazing opportunities to hit the
waves. Go snorkeling or scuba diving at the Great Mesoamerican Reef—the world’s
second‐largest—just offshore, or have a leisurely swim with the dolphins. Once you
dry off, try some authentic Mexican cuisine in El Centro, visit the Mercado Veintiocho
crafts market, learn more about Mexican history at one of Cancun’s impressive museums,
or head downtown for a thrilling bullfight. Whatever you do, don’t miss the chance
to see the Mayan ruins at nearby sites such as El Meco, Ruinas del Rey and Xcaret—a
trip to one of these majestic historical sites is an experience you’ll remember
for a lifetime!

Doctoral Consortium: JunDoctoral Consortium: JunDoctoral Consortium: JunDoctoral Consortium: June 29 – 30,
2012 Welcome Reception: July 1 & Optional Excursion, July 5 NOTE: This conference
is also the Annual EurOMA conference for 2012 In 2012, the Production and Operations
Management World Conference (P&OM Amsterdam 2012) will return to Europe, after having
had its previous European conference in 2000 in Sevilla. Ever since the 17th century,
the low countries (currently Netherlands and Belgium) have had an international
and open orientation based on trade. Still now, these countries are at the heart
of many global operations, with a strong presence in both (physical) supply chain
and (financial) services. This hub role in many global activities and its focus
to conduct operations in a sustainable manner, make it the ideal place to meet in
the prime worldwide conference in production and operations management. The city
is easy to get around, so you can explore on your lunch break and be back in plenty
of time for the afternoon sessions. You can travel on foot or by bicycle easily
and safely, at night as well as during the day. Amsterdam’s canals offer another
way to see the city—take it easy and embark on one of the many canal cruises, or
be adventurous and peddle your way around on a water bike. Be sure to make time
for art and history—the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank House are just
three of the world‐class sites for which Amsterdam is famous.

The 2013 POMS meeting is planned for "The Big Easy," and it's one conference you
won't want to miss! Spend some time in the colorful French Quarter-you can chart
your own course or take a walking tour. The Quarter offers a wealth of opportunities:
plan your next article over a beignet or a steaming bowl of gumbo, pick up souvenirs
for your family at the French Market or Royal Street, and tap your toes to the live
jazz music found all over town. To see the city from a different perspective, ride
the St. Charles streetcar or take a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi. You can
also enjoy New Orleans' most famous celebration at Mardi Gras World, or cool off
at the Aquarium of the Americas or the New Orleans Museum of Art.
